CONT889: TESL Bridging Course
The TESL Bridging Course is designed to supplement students' existing knowledge and ensure they meet the instructional hours required by TESL Ontario and TESL Canada for Part 2 certification. This course provides an additional 25 hours of focused instruction in TESL theory and methodology, bridging the gap for students who have completed TESL Part 1 or Part 2 at other institutions with fewer instructional hours.
The main objective of the TESL Bridging Course is to deepen learners' understanding of key TESL concepts, reinforcing the principles of communicative language teaching (CLT) and other contemporary approaches. Through this course, learners will explore advanced topics in second language acquisition, refine their teaching strategies, and enhance their ability to design effective lesson plans tailored to diverse learner needs. Learners will also delve into advanced TESL theory and methodologies, including effective classroom management techniques, assessment and evaluation strategies in language teaching, technology integration in language learning, and considerations of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the TESL classroom.
This course ensures that all learners meet the 250-hour instructional requirement set by TESL Ontario and TESL Canada for TESL Part 2 certification. Upon successful completion of the TESL Bridging Course, students will be well-prepared to continue their TESL education and pursue the Ontario Certified English Language Teacher (OCELT) designation and the TESL Canada Professional Standard 2, qualifying them to teach adult learners in various educational settings within Ontario, Canada, and internationally.
